Eisenhower warns against the military-industrial complex being to close to the government. He said that if they got to close things could get bad. "In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist." Some examples of this is "the project of the Americas"[1], Halliburton and the Iraq war.

The military-industrial complex is when the government gets too close to the industrial complexes and the military. This is bad because then they will have all the power and in the words of a wise man: "if I buy paints at the beginning of the semester, we are going to have a painting project." Similarly, if the government had control or was very close to the military and the military complexes, we would be in war all the time.

The project of the Americas mission but bluntly is to take over the world. They believe that American leadership is good for the whole world. This is their mission statement: That American leadership is good both for America and for the world; and that such leadership requires military strength, diplomatic energy and commitment to moral principle[2]. This organization has had people in office such as Dick Cheney; witch was a major player because he helped found the project of the Americas and he also played a major part in starting the Iraq war. He got close to the military and then strted a war. This war also benefited him, when there is war he gets more money.

The reason he gets money is Halliburton, a company that he used to be a part of that provides drilling for oil. Dick Cheney retired from the company in 2000, and he owns a fair amount of stock. [3] Halliburton got exclusive rights to drilling in Iraq, before the war even started. The speculation is that Cheney gave the rights to Halliburton and had the power from the military. This is an example of not heading the warning of Eisenhower

As you see, when the government joins with the industrial complex, we get in situations we don’t want and unwanted wars. And in the words of Dwight Eisenhower: “We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together”[4]

Obama's Inauguration

The section that I chose was
“In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned.”

I chose this section because I think it speaks a lot of truth. I agree with the fact that greatness must be earned, the greatness of this next president will be earned through his actions and what he does to make this country better.

I think it relates to the everyday world because it is true that people must earn their greatness this is true not only with the president but with everyday people. People that are considered “great” are considered that because they earned it whether it is by making a great innovation to the world and are known worldwide, or by just being yourself and are known in their circle of friends.

Artist statement D3

People don't realize the realities of war and the fact that soldiers leave things that are very dear to them behind and of the things that their families go through. The image that I created is of a military man giving his daughter a hug. His eyes are filled with tears as he gives his little girl the last hug he will give her in a very long time. "I love you daddy" she says between sobs, "I love you too" he responds "be strong for mommy".
My quote is "Straighten those shoulders! How long have you been in the Army?" This is a quote by Bill Mauldin in his comic strip "Stars and Stripes". I think this quote makes you think. The reason being is that some people’s image of the US military is a tough soldier that never cries. But what we don't realize is that they are normal people. They have feelings and they show up in situations like when they are leaving the people they love the most: mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children and even best friends.
There is much evidence of this, for example, many soldiers were very excited to come home to see their families especially during Christmas. Many people in the armed forces came back; one of these was Sergeant Jose Jimenez who has a wife and two daughters. Sergeant Jose Jimenez was deployed three times. Each time he has been deployed it has been for a long time period of a long year or more. This is only one example of soldier who left behind something or someone to go serve their country.
Some of the things that the families go through are very painful. Having a father or mother gone can be very hard. They may never know when their soldier will come back or if they will come back at all. Another problem that is very prevalent is post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD is a problem when the soldiers come back they basically freak out and in many instances families are destroyed.
Next time you see someone who is leaving for a foreign land away from home to serve think of the sacrifices they are making. They are not only risking their lives in different places in the world but they are also missing loved ones and are subject to PTSD and other challenges. I think that we should put away the mentality of our soldier being rock solid and tough. Granted, they do their jobs very well but they are still only humans and they also have feelings too.

internship

1. What do you hope to learn or discover about the "adult" world of work while you are at your internship?
I want to find that I can actually enjoy myself in the workplace, because it seems that the rest of the world only works to get money and to just be competitive and most people don’t even like their jobs.
2. What do you hope to learn or discover about yourself and your identity while you are at your internship this semester?
i want to learn to allow the music to flow from me in a way that is inspiring. I also want to administer others so that they also may let their talents flow.
3. What goals do you have for yourself for your internship experience?
Administrative- I need to learn how to be organized.
Guitar- I want to be more advanced in my skills, in this case guitar playing.
I feel like the article titled "Bush's seven deadly environmental sins" is extremely bias. Clearly this person does not like president bush and does like our president elect, Barack Obama. I think that the editorial only focuses on the negative things that President Bush has done while the article "Bush to Protect Three Areas in Pacific" is not bias and only tells you the facts, and the facts are that Bush seems to be a very environmentally friendly to the ocean. he may have messed up with some of the other things that he promised to do but at least he’s initiating this movement with the saving the areas in the pacific ocean.
Something that we should keep in mind is that even though Obama has promised to do great things for our country, he is not superman and he may as well mess up just like President Bush did.

Interning For A Learning...

1)

What I hope to get out of my internship is experience in the adult world, also being able to make connections into the business world. This way I am able to refer to people in the business area I hope to pursue as a career in life.

Other hopes I want to achieve in the adult world I to discover new opportunities I have not had for me before.

2)
I hope to discover myself and make sure that what I want to do with my life is revolving around the internship I am going to be at. Seeing everything that the internship has to offer will set out a big amount of info for me to locate the location of a job I want as well.

3)
Some goals I have set for myself is to make connections to some of the adults in the business world to allow me access to future opportunities.
If I am able to contribute greatly to my internship site with ideas than I will have establish some sort of a persona to the employees.
These are my goals for internship
